About novels

I have given many talks about my novels Seaside Pleasures and The Embalmer's Book of Recipes: to literature festivals, literary and book groups (including the Royal Institution's FictionLab), bookshop signings, library groups, and others. Highlights for me have included a 'Darwin Live' talk at the Natural History Museum; talks at Oxford University Museum, the Linnean Society in London (followed by an excellent dinner), the Royal College of Surgeons' Hunterian Museum, and the Zoological Society at Regent's Park; a 'Discovery' series talk in Cambridge and (with a great deal of trepidation, and in relation to The Embalmer's Book) talks at the 'Mathematics in Fiction' conference in Oxford and the International Quasicrystal Conference in Liverpool!

I am always happy to be invited to talk about the novels, and the exciting and often challenging  process of doing the background research.

The talk I gave at Science Oxford, about The Embalmer's Book of Recipes is available as a webcast.
